It seems that akbash, unlike many other dog breeds, establishes very strong emotional ties with his human caregiver, but also with animal housemates. Therefore, despite the fact that it is included in the list of aggressive dog breeds, its character is very complex and not obvious.

The Moscow watchdog was created by Russian breeders who wanted to develop a big, hard-wearing breed with a strong guardian instinct, which, however, was to be obedient and well cooperating with man. After World War II, the breeders began to cross Caucasian and St. Bernard in order to achieve their goal. Of the former, the new breed was to inherit caution and ruthlessness from the aggressors, while of the latter it was given a large size and strength in the genes, combined with a mild temperament.
